Rolling in the Snow

December 6th, 2009

Sung to the tune of Bringing in the Sheaves

Rolling in the Snow
1.  Warming of the sauna, heating of the water,
Carrying of the firewood at Maki Talo;
Waiting for the right heat, and the time of bathing,
We shall come sauna-ing, rolling in the snow.

     Refrain:
     Rolling in the snow, rolling in the snow,
     We shall come sauna-ing, rolling in the snow;
     Rolling in the snow, rolling in the snow,
     We shall come sauna-ing, rolling in the snow.

2.  Rolling in the sunshine, rolling in the shadows,

Fearing neither snow nor winter’s chilling blow;

By the end of steaming, and the sauna ended,

We shall come sauna-ing, rolling in the snow.

3.  Going forth with sisu, rolling for the Master,

When the sweating’s over we will always go;

When the sauna’s over, He will give us voima (strength),

We shall come sauna-ing, rolling in the snow.

Sauna

November 19th, 2009

If you can’t stand the heat get out of the…sauna.

Here is another satisfied sauna enthusiast emerging from the sauna at Maki Talo, at Brantwood, Wisconsin.  He braved the heat and steam and enjoyed the refreshing and relaxing feeling that only a Finnish sauna can give.

Thank you, Benjamin, for contributing to another gemutlich experience at Maki Talo.

Gemutlichkeit is the German word for “coziness.”  Rather than merely describing a place that is compact, well-heated and nicely furnished, it connotes the notion of belonging, social acceptance, cheerfulness, the absense of anything hectic and the opportunity to spend quality time.
