The opening reception for the Finnish Folk Art exhibit at the Koskela House Finnish Museum at Brantwood, on June 20th, was a huge success.  Susie, one of the attendants, wrote:

“What a fun time we had yesterday at your ‘event’ - we all enjoyed the exhibit, the visiting, the food and of course, the music.  Finn Power is sooo special and we are truly blessed to have them in the area.  We sure lucked out with the weather!!”

Thank you, Susie, it is always nice to hear such compliments.

Haaga

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

These four rhododendrons were developed in Finland and are now growing among the pine trees at Maki Talo.  This one is Haaga, named after the city district in which Laajasuo Park is located.

Finnish Rhododendron

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Two Finnish rhododendrons in my collection have blossoms like this.  One is labeled Haaga and one is labeled Mikkeli.  Haaga is a richer pink and internet sources show Mikkeli to be white.  This one more closely resembles Pekka.

The Hinsa Clock

Monday, June 15th, 2009

This beautiful birch bark clock with twig trim and a German brass wind-up movement was made especially for Maki Talo by Finnish-American woodworker and clock-maker Ed Hinsa.  The chimes counting out the hours compliment the natural sounds in the area…man and nature in harmony.
